| There is a supply of maps and guide books (Michelin and others) at the house together with several suggestions for itineraries for day trips. Visitors appreciate different things and have different tastes, but there is something close at hand to suit everyone. We keep an eye open for notices of local events, concerts etc and pass on news of these. You can be as busy or relaxed as you wish but amongst the more general places to visit we would include:- | |
| Grasse. | Grasse is a matter of a few minutes drive away. There are perfumeries to visit and the old town and cathedral to explore, but one of the great pleasures is to go in the morning, before the day gets too hot, and have coffee and croissant for breakfast in the Place aux Aires next to the flower sellers by the fountain. |
| Cannes. | 30 minutes by car or slightly longer if you park in Valbonne and take the bus. Look at the boutiques on Rue d'Antibes but also explore the old town (Le Suquet). It's a delight to have lunch in one of the beach restaurants in winter with the warm sun and the blue Mediterranean Sea lapping right alongside. In summer we find them very busy but still lots of people like to go down and spend the day there. Ferries leave from the port for a visit to the Isles de Lerins, or why not go further and take the ferry for lunch in St Tropez. |
| Nice. | The principle city in the region, its boulevards, its old town, the castle, the corniches, the port with ferries to Corsica, the museums, the flower market. Well worth a day exploring. |
| Gorge du Verdon. | The biggest and most magnificent of the gorges in France, if not in Europe. Centered in a region of exceptional geological interest, the river following a fault in the rock structure has carved a huge canyon. There are a number of viewing places along the road and for the energetic a footpath which descends and follows the bottom of the canyon for about half its length. The gorge ends where the river flows out into Lac Ste Croix where it is possible to hire canoes to canoe back up into the bottom end of the canyon. Include in your trip a visit to Moustieres-Sainte-Marie and the lavender fields. |
| Other ideas. |
Antibes, a beautiful old town and harbour with a fantastic market. The vineyards and hill villages of the Var Lac St Cassien The local villages, Bar sur Loup, Tourettes sur Loup, St Paul de Vence and the Fondation Maeght, Mougins, Valbonne and Biot, Gourdon and the Gorge de Loup. The local hills and mountain villages, Caussols and the observatory, Cipieres, Greolières, Thorenc. There are so many museums and galleries I could not begin to list them all. |
| We do have details and itineraries for all these, and more, so don't hesitate to ask. |
